Honouring the Season You’re In

Hello BEautiful Friend,

June is here!

And with the beginning of a new month comes the BEginning of a new season.

June is filled with so many meaningful celebrations. Pride Month. Father’s Day. The Summer Solstice. The official arrival of summer.

For parents with young children, it marks the end of a school year and the beginning of summer adventures, busy schedules, and trying to balance it all. I remember those days well.

But as I sit here reflecting on this season of life, I realize June feels different to me now.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting older.

Maybe it’s because I’ve learned that life moves faster than we think.

Or maybe it’s because I’ve finally started paying attention to the BEauty that exists within change.

The truth is, every season asks something different of us.

Some seasons ask us to grow.

Some ask us to let go.

Some ask us to trust.

And some ask us to simply be present enough to appreciate what is right in front of us.

This month, I find myself reflecting on the people who have shaped my life.

My father is no longer here, yet his influence remains. There are moments when I wish I could pick up the phone and hear his voice, share a story, or simply tell him about the woman I am becoming.

Grief has taught me something powerful.

Love doesn’t leave when someone does. It changes form.

And if you’ve lost someone you love, I hope you know you’re not alone.

This month also brings Pride Month.

As the mother of a gay son, Pride carries a special meaning in my heart.

For me, Pride is about more than a celebration.

It’s about honouring people exactly as they are.

It’s about creating spaces where people feel safe to be seen, loved, and accepted.

It’s about remembering that every human being deserves dignity, respect, belonging, and the freedom to live authentically.

As parents, friends, partners, and community members, we have the opportunity to lead with love.

And in a world that often feels divided, I believe love is still one of the most powerful forces we have.

And Then There Is My Husband

The man who has stood beside me through seasons of growth, challenge, change, and transformation.

Marriage isn’t always perfect.

Life isn’t always easy.

But there is something beautiful about pausing long enough to appreciate the people who walk alongside us through it all.

We spend so much time focusing on what’s next that we forget to celebrate what already is.

Perhaps that’s the invitation June is bringing us.

To slow down.

To appreciate.

To honour.

To celebrate.

To allow ourselves to fully inhabit the season we’re in instead of rushing toward the next one.

As many of you know, I’ve been talking a lot lately about BEing.

Not doing more.

Not pushing harder.

Not trying to BEcome someone else.

Simply BEing.

Present.

Honest.

Grateful.

Aligned.

The season of life you’re in right now doesn’t need to be perfect to be meaningful.

You don’t need all the answers.

You don’t need a five-year plan.

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

You simply need to honour where you are.

Because there is beauty in this season too.

Even in the chaos.

Even in the uncertainty.

Even in the BEcoming.

June Reflection

What if this month wasn’t about doing more?

What if it was about honouring what matters most?

The people you love.

The lessons you’ve learned.

The growth you’ve experienced.

The woman you’re BEcoming.

Perhaps that’s what this season is really asking of us.

To pause long enough to notice.

With love,

Vicki McDougall
