Hello BEautiful Friend,
Can you believe we’re already into July?
I don’t know about you, but this summer seems to be moving at lightning speed.
As I sit down to write this month’s newsletter, I find myself reflecting on a weekend that looked nothing like I imagined and yet, it may become one of the most meaningful weekends I’ll ever remember.
There are weekends that become traditions.
For us, this one always has.
Every year our home comes alive. Tents fill the yard. Trailers line the driveway. Every bed is claimed, air mattresses cover the floors, coolers overflow, music plays, kids laugh, and friends become family all over again.
We celebrate Canada Day. Then, just a few days later, we celebrate our wedding anniversary on July 4.
So what happens is we have a houseful for a few days!!
It’s one of my favourite weekends of the entire year.
This year…
Life had other plans.
A water main broke in our basement. Again. The second time in about ten years.
Just as we were trying to figure that out, a massive storm rolled through.
Friday evening around 7:00 p.m., the power went out.
It didn’t come back on until Sunday morning around 5:00 a.m.
No lights.
No air conditioning.
No running life the way we’re used to.
If I’m being honest, there was a moment when it felt like everything was falling apart.
Then my bestest friend looked at me and said something I’ll never forget:
“It’s not a catastrophe. We’re here… and we’ve got this.”
Those simple words changed everything.
Instead of focusing on what we didn’t have, everyone started asking, “What do we need?”
Someone found generators.
Someone else fired up the barbecue.
The pool became our air conditioning.
A fire became our evening light.
People moved mattresses to the coolest corners of the house.
We called the friends who hadn’t arrived yet and asked them to stay home because we simply couldn’t accommodate everyone safely.
It wasn’t the weekend we had planned.
But somehow…
It became exactly the weekend we needed.
There was something incredibly beautiful about stripping life back to its essentials.
No television.
No endless scrolling.
No perfectly planned meals.
Just conversations.
Laughter.
Helping hands.
Children making memories.
Friends solving problems together.
Family showing up for one another.
It reminded me that comfort isn’t found in electricity.
Home isn’t measured by perfect conditions.
Joy isn’t dependent on everything going according to plan.
Sometimes the greatest gift is discovering how capable, resourceful, and connected we really are when life asks us to pivot.
I realized something else this weekend.
We spend so much of our lives trying to control every outcome.
We plan.
We organize.
We prepare.
And while there’s beauty in preparation, there’s also BEauty in surrender.
Because when we let go of needing everything to be perfect, we make room for what matters most.
Presence.
Connection.
Gratitude.
Community.
Those are the things that carried us through.
Those are the things we’ll remember years from now.
Not the flooded basement.
Not the power outage.
Not the inconvenience.
We’ll remember sitting around the fire.
We’ll remember everyone pitching in without being asked.
We’ll remember laughing in the pool because there wasn’t much else to do.
We’ll remember choosing joy anyway.
Life will always surprise us.
Plans will change.
Storms will come.
Things will break.
But maybe BEing Unstoppable isn’t about avoiding the storm.
Maybe it’s about discovering that even in the dark, surrounded by people you love, there is still light.
This weekend reminded me that home isn’t the house.
Home is the people who stay.
And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
As we move into this new month together, I want to leave you with a simple question:
Where in your life are you holding so tightly to the plan that you might be missing the beauty of what is unfolding instead?
Don’t worry about finding the perfect answer.
Just notice what comes up.
Then choose one small action that reflects the woman you want to BE.
Maybe it’s making the phone call you’ve been avoiding.
Maybe it’s forgiving yourself.
Maybe it’s asking for help.
Maybe it’s sitting outside with your morning coffee instead of rushing into your to-do list.
Maybe it’s simply taking one deep breath before reacting.
One small shift.
One intentional choice.
That’s how change begins.
That’s how confidence grows.
That’s how we BEcome Unstoppable.
Until next month…
Keep BEing Unstoppable.
With love & gratitude,
Vicki McDougall
