September. 3.2024

I like to think of September as a second shot at a new year – I believe this stems from my own childhood as well as witnessing my own children in their early years. I know, you know, what I am talking about! It’s that moment when the air gets crisper and you can feel the warm freedom of summer roll away as a new school year approaches. So you go shopping in preparation for the new school year- what type of person will I be, now that I am a whole year older?

This undeniable feeling of newness does not just go away in adulthood, instead it lives in the changing of the leaves and the putting away of the summer clothes and digging up your sweaters and cold weather cozies. This month marks a new beginning felt by all… and for me especially as September 2nd is my birthday! And so, I maintain – September is YOUR Second New Year.

Just like the trees that shed their leaves to make room for new growth, humans experience cycles of release and renewal. The act of letting go of the old allows us to create space and embrace new beginnings and opportunities. It's a beautiful reminder that even in the midst of the coldest winter, the promise of spring's warmth and the potential for new beginnings is always present. This cyclical nature is a powerful metaphor for personal growth and resilience, encouraging us to welcome change and the fresh possibilities it brings.

As a dedicated Inner BEauty Coach , I encourage my clients to embrace this ‘Second New Year’ and welcome the time to assess the past and chart an exciting course for the future.Over the past year or so, I have been pouring my energy into nurturing my inner growth as well as building a platform to which I can move to assist others in theirs. This has meant high levels of dedication towards the nitty gritty buildout of my website and physical business/workshop space. Working with women and being a part of the coaching industry, I have developed a profound love of my community–that which I affectionately refer to as My Tribe. This impactful foundation of support holds me in the heavier times and celebrates me as I move through them. With the dawning of the Second New Year, I contemplate the aspects of my life I wish to release, like my past mistakes, traumas, and the "old version" of self. I recognize that while these experiences have shaped me, they do not define me in the present or future. It's a powerful realization that many can relate to, as we all have chapters in our lives we're ready to close.

Setting goals is at the heart of this transformation. Goals are beacons that guide us through life's journey, providing direction and purpose. For me, my goals are akin to a game—a playful yet serious commitment to crafting the life I desire. My objectives are clear: complete home renovations, meditate daily, journal, walk, continue Pilates, and adopt healthier eating habits. These goals are not just tasks but commitments to a lifestyle that aligns with my values and vision for myself. The key to achieving these goals is a game plan, and for me, this means using a paper day timer alongside digital tools. Writing down my schedule is an act of commitment, a physical manifestation of my dedication to self-accountability and living with integrity.

My approach to goal-setting and embracing change is hopefully an inspiration for others. It prompts us to ask ourselves what we're willing to let go of and what new goals we wish to pursue. As we enter this second new year, let's take a leaf out of my book and set our own game plans. Let's choose our goals with intention and move forward with the knowledge that while life may be unpredictable, our ability to adapt and grow is limitless.

What game will you play this year? How will you embrace change and set goals that lead to a fulfilling and authentic life? The journey is yours to create.
